April is quite the month for me. First it is a month we celebrate 6 birthdays in our family including my own. Secondly it holds the anniversary days of the crossing over of my brother, mother, and brother-in-law. Births and deaths in the same month has really caused me to pause and think about the significance of beginnings and endings.  We come in as children believing we have all the time in the world to create the things we want and have a life full of joy and happiness.  As the years progress, it gets to be a challenge to reconcile joy and happiness with some of the events that occur.  We get to an age where the loss of loved ones is a part of life. What it has made me realize is that we can never take for granted the people in our life that we love.  Any time we can reach out and speak to them or visit with them is time well spent.  We will never regret spending extra time with the people we love.  However we will regret the time not spent.

I know too that the only control I have over unhappy situations in my life is my reaction to them.  I can choose to dwell on the sadness of loosing someone I love in the physical sense or focus on the happiness this person brought me when he or she was here in physical form.  I also now I can still reach out to them and “touch” them maybe not in the way I am used to but in ways that are just as meaningful by being open to signs of their continual presence in my life.  I know above all that the one thing that is permanent in this life is love and regardless of the losses we suffer we can always feel the love that is at the heart of our cherished relationships.

So this month in celebration of your loved ones give them an extra bit of your most precious commodity….time, give them a call or better yet a big hug and tell them how much they mean to you.  It will be the best gift you give not only to them but also to yourself.

One last thing in celebration of Earth Day this month remember to RECYCLE, REUSE, REDUCE Mother Earth and Future Generations will thank you for it!!!
